Full name; Ninotchka Garcia, aka Nina, was born on May 3, 1965, in Barranquilla, Colombia. She is the daughter of a wealthy importer. She completed her school education for the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachuttes, in 1983.

For further studies, she joined the Boston University and holds a bachelor’s degree. Later she flew to Paris and attended Esmos and pursued a bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1992.

Nina Garcia is the Editor-in-Chief of Elle Magazine

Garcia began her career in the early 1980s and worked as public relations fir Perry Ellis and then-designer Marc Jacobs. Then she moved to Mirabella to work as Assistant Stylist and Market Editor and left the job after taking the position of Fashion Director at the famous magazine, Elle, in 2000.

Eventually, she promoted to Editor-at-Large in April 2008 and then became the Vice President of the magazine in May 2008.

Garcia is a Judge on Peabody-Winning Project Runway

She has been a judge on Bravo’s Project Runway since its launch in 2004. Following the years, she has garnered lots of fan following around the world.

Nina and David are the parents of two children; Lucas Alexander Conrod and Alexander David Conrod. Their first child Lucas Alexander Conrod was born on March 24, 2007, and is 13 years old.

They were blessed with their second son Alexander David in late November 2010. She even shared the good news of their second baby arrival via her Twitter account.

Garcia is an Author

Aside from her career, Garcia makes more fortune from the books she authored. To date, she has published four books on fashion. The judge of Project Runway released her first book titled The Little Black Book of Style in September 2007. Also, the book is translated into Spanish and Portuguese.

Garcia was diagnosed with Breast Cancer

The Project Runway judge was diagnosed with carrying thee BRCA gene. According to Parade, she went in for testing every six months for the past few years. In 2019, she decided to undergo a preventative double mastectomy after some abnormalities were discovered in 2015.

She spent years battling breast cancer. After the surgery, she shared her story and hoped it would empower other women to take charge of their own health. The Colombian immigrant also hosts symposium and luncheon for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
